easyJet to take off from Southampton again this winter

Geneva flights are back from December 2018 following demand from ski passengers.

Southampton Airport is welcoming back a great airline and a fabulous destination for the winter season.

Flights go on sale today (12 April) for the first flights of the new season with easyJet, Europe’s leading airline. The announcement follows a successful maiden season in 2017/2018 when easyjet launched its Southampton to Geneva route, aimed at winter sports enthusiasts.

More than 10,000 passengers took advantage of the low easyJet ticket prices and the easy access of Southampton Airport last winter, and there has been a strong demand for more flights.

Southampton Airport’s managing director, Dave Lees, said.

“We are delighted to see easyJet returning after a successful first season with us. Passengers in the South don’t want to transport their ski equipment up to London airports, and the breeze-through facilities we offer at Southampton are perfect for skiers who want to maximise their time on the slopes.

“As word of mouth spreads about our direct flights we expect even more passengers to take advantage of the convenience of skiing direct from Southampton.”

The mediaeval alpine city of Geneva is just a two-hour flight from Hampshire, and is close to legendary ski resorts of Zermatt, Verbier and Val d-Isere.

Flights from Southampton to Geneva will start in December 2018 and operate three times a week throughout the winter on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on Airbus A320 aircraft. Later flight times returning from Geneva will mean more time in the resort.

Tickets are on sale now. Later this month, booking will open for February and March 2019 departures, with April 2019 flights available later this year.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Country Manager, said:

“We are delighted to be operating to Geneva from Southampton for a second year running. After a successful first year of operation it’s great that we are seeing continued demand from passengers travelling with us from the region.

“Our Geneva route provides customers looking to hit the slopes next winter or spend Christmas in the Alps, with an easy and affordable connection.”
