Steven Small

Brand Director, Routes

An economic development and tourism specialist, Steven’s career has focussed on working with destinations supporting inward investment, tourism and economic development initiative.

Roles in inward investment, specifically site selection, and project management led Stevento the Northwest Regional Development Agency, where he developeda grant to help support regional airport’s route development strategies.

As a consultant at Ernst and Young, Steven worked on a number of projects for both private and public sectororganisations, including supporting the development of the business plan for Bath City Council. Back in Manchesterhe joined the city’s inward investment agency, MIDAS, helping attractbusinesses to the city.

From here, he moved to Marketing Manchester workingon a variety of projects including funding packages for Manchester Central –the city’s main convention venue and thenew National Football Museum,as well as delivering the route development fund for Manchester Airport. Steven then took on the role of Head of Business Tourismfor Visit Manchester, working to attract major new events and conferences to the city.

Steven moved back to his home town of Liverpool as Head of Tourism, working with public and private stakeholders to develop a long term strategy to maximise the explosion of the visitor economy, since the European Capital of Culture in 2008, and ensurethe city region continues to improve its offer and grow sustainably.

A move to UBM in February 2017 brought Steven back to route development. As Brand Director, Steven leads a team in the development and delivery of Routes -a portfolio of global events providing a platform for the route development community to negotiate new air services.

A father of two, Steven is a supporter of Everton football club and lives in a village in North Cheshire.

Sabine Tegtmeyer-Dette

Director of Economic and Environmental Affairs and First City Councillor, City of Hannover

Sabine Tegtmeyer-Dette ist the Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Economic and Environmental Affairs from the City of Hannover.

To her directorate belongs amongst others the Hannover Congress Centrum, furthermore she is a member of the supervisory board of the Hannover Airport and the Hannover Tourismus and Marketing GmbH.

John Hanlon

Head of International Government and Industry Relations, Norwegian

John joined British Airways in 1968 as a graduate trainee and spent 30 years in overseas Regional General Management positions in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. His last position with British Airways was General Manager Africa and the Indian Ocean, based in Johannesburg.

Awarded OBE in 1993 for services to British aviation interests in Nigeria.

Joined Flybe in 2000, becoming Director Alliances. 
In June 2006 appointed Secretary General of ELFAA – European Low Fares Airline Association, having previously chaired the ELFAA Airspace Work Group within ELFAA.

Joined Norwegian in October 2016, as Head of International Government and Industry Relations.

Bence Szabo

Head of Network, easyJet

Bence has been with easyJet for the past 3 years and in the Network role for the past year. The highlight of his time there was the Air Berlin acquisition, delivering easyJet’s strategy of #1 positions in primary airports. Before easyJet, Bence was at Qantas in Sydney, lastly as Head of Network of the International division. The highlight of his time there was working on project team to create the Qantas-Emirates partnership and then re-designing and implementing the changes to 60% of Qantas’ international network. Previously, Bence was a consultant with L.E.K. Consulting, specialising in aviation – both airlines and airports.

Andrew Armitstead

Fleet and Network Profitability Director, Airbus

Andrew is a member of the Market Intelligence and Consulting team at Airbus, sharing his Fleet and Network Planning expertise with the world’s airlines. He joined the team after a 4 year spell in Washington DC as Airline Marketing Director, responsible for marketing the entire Airbus family of aircraft to airlines in North America.

 Andrew joined Airbus in Toulouse in 2006 as A350 XWB Marketing Director, responsible for the A350’s market positioning from its launch and development through to first flight in 2013.

With almost 30 years’ experience in the aviation industry, in diverse technical, commercial and consultancy roles, Andrew has had the pleasure of engaging with most of the world’s major airlines over the course of his career, developing deep expertise in aircraft and route economics.

Andrew was born in the UK, studied Engineering at Durham University and now lives with his family in Toulouse, France.

Heiko Reitz

Vice President Network Management and Airport Relations, Eurowings

After completing his Joint Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering at Darmstadt University of Technology Heiko began his career at the internal consultancy of Deutsche Post/DHL. In 2008, he moved to Lufthansa Consulting as Project Manager where he led several large scale projects with various clients globally.

In 2013, Heiko assumed the responsibility for the Executive Office of Carsten Spohr. When Mr. Spohr became CEO of Lufthansa Group in 2014, Heiko headed the Corporate Executive Office including the responsibility for the Corporate Governance of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

Beginning of 2017, he moved to Lufthansa’s subsidiary Eurowings where he was responsible for managing the Air Berlin cooperation. After AB filed for insolvency he headed the acquisition as well as the integration activities within Eurowings.

Since April 2018, he is responsible for the Network Management and Airport Relations of the more than 180 short haul aircraft of Eurowings.

Aboudy Nasser

Chief Commercial Officer, London Stansted Airport

Aboudy recently took up the position of Chief Commercial Officer at London Stansted Airport after more than 20 years in the airline business; where he held a number of senior Commercial positions in both full-service and low-cost airlines across Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining London Stansted Airport, Aboudy was Senior Vice President, Planning and Revenue Management at Oman Air, responsible for Network Planning, Revenue Management, Commercial Planning, Alliances and Partnerships, Distribution, Ecommerce, and Ancillary revenue. Before that, Aboudy was the Group Head of Sales, Distribution and Ancillary revenue for all AOCs in the AirAsia group, having joined AirAsia after eight years as Head of Sales Strategy and Planning at Etihad Airways.  Aboudy’s airline career started at British Airways initially within the Finance function before moving into Network Planning.

Daniel Johan Reus

Network Development Manager, Vueling

Daniel Johan Reus fell in love with aviation when he started at Vueling as a fresh graduate in economics. Enjoying the dynamic environment of a startup LCC he was very lucky to learn from great leaders in the industry. Daniel currently leads the Network development department responsible for the evaluation of new routes and negotiations with airports. He has been with Vueling for 9 years holding positions from client quality to network. His team coordinates route planning and negotiations with internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure alignment with strategy and performance. Daniel has been part of the exponential growth phase that Vueling has experienced from 2009 with 35 aircraft and 92 routes into well over 100 planes and more than 300 scheduled routes today and has actively contributed to the establishment of various international bases such as Florence, Paris and Rome Fiumicino. The latter as a second connecting hub in 2014.  During last year’s World route conference, his direct superior, Gabriel Schmilovich was recognized with the Individual Award which he attributed to his teams efforts.

Daniel holds a degree in both Tourism and International business and languages (he speaks 5). He has been visiting the routes conferences since world Routes in Berlin in 2011 and has been attending many ever since. He believes good relations are key to any long term strategy for which Routes conferences are essential. Airlines benefit greatly from them if they integrate Routes as a fixed part of their planning process.

Thomas Perrot

Mobility Manager, UEFA

Thomas is an experienced Manager with over a decade of work experience in the transportation industry, leading cross-functional teams to deliver international projects.

Thomas started his career in the consultancy world, focusing on the transportation industry and providing support to private sector firms or government agencies with their strategic development phase. He then moved to the fast-growing and challenging industry of e-commerce, working for Amazon where he oversaw operational and commercial management of premium carriers. In 2017, Thomas joined UEFA to lead the Mobility team with the goal of facilitating travels for the millions of fans on their journey to attend UEFA competitions. Thomas is engaging with international, national and local stakeholders to implement strategies and operational plans that will improve spectators experience and movement in a safe and efficient way. Thomas’ areas of expertise ranges from strategic planning to operations.

Thomas was born in France and holds a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in transport engineering. Thomas lives with his family in Nyon, Switzerland.

Sergiy Khyzhnyak

Airport coordinator, UEFA

Sergiy benefits from 12 years of experience in the aviation industry, including 8 years in relation to major sport events. He indeed oversaw the airport planning and the airport operations for the UEFA EURO 2012 in Ukraine as well as for the UEFA Champions League Final 2018 in Kyiv.

Sergiy conducted numerous projects from airline operations, readiness of airport infrastructure and operational planning to policy development and implementation.
Sergiy recently took up the position of airport coordinator at UEFA, where one of his main responsibilities is to develop an air traffic strategic plan from transition to implementation, to ultimately ensure the efficient movement of all UEFA EURO 2020 participants. In this role, Sergiy is also strongly involved in the airport operational planning of the UEFA Europa League Final 2019 which will be held in Baku on 29th May.

Sergiy was born in Ukraine and holds a Master’s Degree in International Business Administration from the Donetsk National Technical University.

Wolfgang Martini

Head of Customer service, Munich airport

Wolfgang is the Head of Customer Services for Munich Airport’s Terminal and Passenger Services and is leading the preparations at Munich Airport for UEFA EURO 2020.

His first involvement in a major sport event was during the 2004 Summer Olympics Torch Relay when the Olympic Flame travelled through Munich. He has since been continuously involved in the planning and delivery of major event operations (2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, 2012 UEFA Champions League Final in Munich, US Olympic Team training camp in Munich for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics and Paralympics). Wolfgang is also involved in the bidding process for future major events.

Fabrizio Magliocca

Head of Operational Planning, Rome Fiumicino Airport

Fabrizio is an engineer with a background in operation research and with previous experience in process improvement and business controlling.

As Head of the Operational Planning of the Rome FCO Airport, he is responsible for services to passengers and airlines and for optimizing the airport’s infrastructure scheduling and workforce planning.

In addition, Fabrizio is in charge of ad hoc procedures for target flights and special events and is the main point of contact on operational matters for both internal and external stakeholders. In this respect, Fabrizio is the FCO airport representative for the delivery and implementation of the EURO 2020 airport operational plan.

Al Titterington

Managing Director, Cornwall Airport Newquay

Al Titterington has been Managing Director of Cornwall Airport Newquay since 2010. He has significant executive airport management experience having worked at other UK regional airports and on a number of aviation projects in Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. As well as the day to day management, Al also leads on the commercial development of the Airport. Away from the day to day running of the Airport, Al is a member of the Steering Group of the Regional & Business Airports Group.

Alexandra Goldschmidt

Senior Director Network Management, Austrian Airlines

Alexandra joined the Airline world back in 1998 at Lufthansa Cargo Sales. After finishing her studies in Business Administration she joined the Lufthansa Cargo Pricing department. After a change to the passenger unit in Revenue Management in Frankfurt, she decided to take the chance to move to Munich to build up the commercial unit of Lufthansa´s southernmost Hub in 2007, again in Revenue Management.

In 2012 she took the opportunity to explore the world of Marketing as Head of Marketing, Pricing and Steering for Lufthansa in Italy, based in Milan.

During 2014 she became Director Network Planning and Steering Cont at Austrian Airlines, Vienna. Followed by a step beginning 2017 to become Senior Director Network Management Austrian Airlines. Until today she is responsible not only for network planning, but also Scheduling and Slot Management at Austrian Airlines.

Francois Bourienne

Chief Commercial Officer, AGS (Aberdeen, Glasgow, Southampton) and Chair, UK Travel Retail Association

Francois Bourienne is Chief Commercial Officer for AGS (Aberdeen, Glasgow, and Southampton) Airports. Francois joined Glasgow Airport in 2010 as Commercial Director following four years with The Nuance Group, a leading Swiss-based travel retailer, where he was active in business development, working on various concession tenders and starting operations in multiple countries. Francois was promoted to his current position following the sale of AGS Airports from Heathrow Ltd to a partnership between Ferrovial and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. Prior to this, Francois was a consultant with Accenture and Bain & Company, advising mainly FMCG and retail companies on strategy and was also involved in due diligence for private equity funds. He holds an MSc in Management from EM Lyon and a MBA from INSEAD.

At AGS Airports, Francois is responsible for all commercial activities (airline business development, retail/parking, real estate…). Francois is also the Chair of the UK Travel Retail Forum and the Vice-President Aviation Affairs of the European Travel Retail Confederation.

Tim Alderslade

Chief Executive Officer, Airlines UK

Tim joined Airlines UK, the trade body for UK-registered airlines, as Chief Executive in May 2016. Prior to this he spent three and a half years at the Airport Operators Association (AOA), most recently as Public Affairs & PR Director, where he was responsible for engaging with politicians, journalists and industry stakeholders, and engaging in campaigns on issues ranging from airport capacity, Air Passenger Duty, sustainable aviation and regional connectivity.


Before joining the AOA Tim worked for two Members of Parliament and for the integrated public affairs and PR consultancy Insight Consulting Group.

Oliver Lackmann

Managing Director, TUI fly

Oliver Lackmann has been Managing Director of TUI fly since November 2018. As a trained pilot, he assumes the group-wide function of Director Flight Operations in the airline group TUI Aviation and is responsible for Compliance & Safety Management. In addition, Oliver Lackmann is currently completing his type rating for the Boeing 737 and will be sitting in the cockpit two or three times a month for TUI fly.
Previously, he served as Chief Operating Officer of TUI fly from March to November 2018. Before joining TUI fly, he was the Managing Director of NIKI Luftfahrt GmbH, prior to which he had served as Chief Flight Operations Officer and Accountable Manager of Air Berlin, where he was responsible for flight operations, crew planning and training as well as Operation Compliance & Safety Management. Oliver Lackmann began his flying career in 2000 as First Officer on the aircraft types DHC-8 and then Boeing 737, since 2005 he is a captain in the cockpit. Oliver Lackmann comes from Essen and is married.

Ilona Cambron

Director Air Service Development, ASM Americas

Ilona brings 11 years of aviation experience to ASM Americas, with the last four years in aviation consulting. Ilona specializes in domestic and international air service development. Her efforts focus primarily on securing additional air services for airports in North America and Europe. She is expert in use, analysis, and presentation of airline/airport data such as traffic, airline revenue, and airline capacity/schedules. She routinely produces route forecasts, leakage/point-of-sale studies, air fare analysis, and applications to secure government grants to support air service (such as DOT SCASD). Ilona meets with and maintains relationships with airline decision makers at industry conferences and their head offices; creates and maintains airport marketing programs utilizing social media, blogs, and digital advertising platforms. She maintains relationships with the clients, attends client stakeholder meetings, and develops community support for air service development initiatives.

Prior to that Ilona spent seven years working for Russia’s largest airport management corporation. She was responsible for air service development and marketing for all managed airports with a cumulative catchment of 14 million people. She was doing business to business marketing of group airports to airlines using data analysis, forecasting, presentation creation, one-on-one meetings, and relationship management. She developed relationships with stakeholders in government and private sector; and prepared economic justification for new air service and secured service on Finnair, Air China, Hainan Airlines, Alitalia, flydubai, airarabia, and Czech Airlines.

Ilona is a member of the ACI-NA Jumpstart Planning Working Group and AAAE Digital Media Conference Planning Group.

Aidan Mooney

Vice President Consulting, ASM

Aidan has worked in the aviation industry for over 25 years and was previously the director of aviation development at Manchester Airports Group. He has negotiated with airlines from around the globe and is a well-known figure in the aviation industry. Aidan has extensive experience in forecasting, budget planning and management reporting.

John Strickland

Director, JLS Consulting

John Strickland, is a graduate of the University of York and has held senior positions including network planning and revenue management with a number of airlines including British Caledonian, British Airways, KLMuk and Buzz.  He was instrumental in the decision by KLM to establish the low cost airline Buzz and in shaping its network. His 36 years of experience have exposed him to the business models of regional, global, legacy and low cost carriers.

JLS Consulting was established in 2003 and now serves a wide range of clients including airports, airlines and investors whose businesses require strategic insight, guidance and advisory services concerning the air transport industry.

John provides expert independent business and financial commentary on the sector for leading media, including the BBC, Sky, CNN and the Financial Times.  He is also a regular conference chair and moderator at industry events, frequently interviewing leading senior executives.

David is responsible for providing insight to the Routesonline community through the latest breaking news, as well as regular features and analysis on developments and trends within the sector. He previously spent 11 years as a business journalist, which included five as the editor of an award-winning digital news team.

Rikke Munk Christensen

Vice President Traffic Planning, Finnair

Rikke has +10 years' experience in route development in aviation. She started her aviation career in Denmark, first for Sterling Airlines, LCC, later on in Cimber Sterling, regional carrier to SAS. Five years ago she relocated from Copenhagen to Helsinki and has worked for Finnair with the responsibility of developing the route network, traffic program and connections in Helsinki hub. Finnair is offering the fastest and most convenient gateway between Europe and Asia, via Helsinki, serving 17 Asian gateways, over 70 destinations in Europe and three gateways in the US. We operate one of the youngest fleet and was launching European carrier for the new Airbus A350XWB. Finnair is a member of the Oneworld alliance and has joint venture with American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia on the North Atlantic, and with Japan Airlines and British Airways on Europe-Japan routes. As a forerunner in quality and punctuality, Finnair is able to offer the shortest and fastest connections between Europe and Asia due to the geographical location of Helsinki.

Karen Walker is ATW’s Editor-in-Chief. She had been covering the aerospace industry for almost 30 years. She has specialist knowledge in training, simulation, safety and aeropolitics.

Ed has been the editor for more than two years and oversaw a number of changes to the magazine to better reflect the world of route development today and those who work in it. Before taking on Routes News, he was a B2B travel journalist for 12 years, writing about the UK tourism industry with a focus on tour operators, destinations and tourist boards.

David Stroud

Managing Director, ASM

David has over 20 years’ experience in the aviation industry and has played a crucial part in developing the ASM business. He joined ASM in 1998 and later transferred to Routes, ASM’s sister company. Following UBM’s purchase of ASM and Routes in 2010, David led the integration of the two companies into the new organisation. He decided to return to ASM in 2013 to help shape ASM’s future direction. David previously worked for BAE Systems, Manchester Airport and London City Airport.

Michael Novak

Marketing Director for EMEA & Central Asia, Embraer

Michal Nowak joined Embraer in 2018 as a Marketing Director for EMEA & Central Asia. He is responsible for Embraer’s product and brand positioning as well as support to the strategic sales campaigns across the region. Before joining Embraer, Michal worked for LOT Polish Airlines as Executive Director Strategy and Innovation, supporting carrier’s restructuring plan and subsequent growth strategy that turned it into the fastest growing network airline in Europe. Michal has also extensive consulting experience, working for and with Boston Consulting Group for several years. Michal graduated law from Warsaw University and Universita di Catania.
