Top Airlines & Airports in the Americas Seek Growth Opportunities

Posted 12/01/2012 - Viewed 5321 time(s)

Record attendance at Routes Americas, the only route development forum for all the Americas

The 5th Routes Americas will see a record attendance of airlines and airports from all over the Americas.  Six weeks ahead of the event, over 50 airlines have already registered – a clear sign that the aviation industry is looking for opportunities to grow across the Americas despite a challenging macro-economic environment globally.

The event will take place on 19-21 February 2012 in Nassau, The Bahamas and is hosted by Nassau Airport Development Company.  Routes Americas is the largest route development forum of the region and the only event that brings together key players in the airline and airport industry from the North, Central, South America and the Caribbean.

The top carriers of the region – the traditional US airlines, American Airlines, Delta, US Airways, United Airlines (making their inaugural appearance at Routes Americas) and the top low-cost carriers in the US (Jetblue, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit) as well as the three largest airlines in Latin America (GOL, LAN, and TAM) will attend the event.  Moreover, a strong Canadian presence with Westjet, Air Transat, and Sunwings and a significant attendance by non-regional airlines such as British Airways, TUI and Condor has been confirmed.

Airport registrations include Oakland International Airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Chicago/Rockford International Airport who are returning to the event for the first time since 2008.  This year’s Routes Americas will also see several airports attending the event for the first time with recent registrations received from Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport Authority, Charlottetown Airport Authority, Columbus Regional Airport Authority, Kansas City International Airport, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport, Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority and Lakeland Linder Regional Airport.

David Stroud, Executive Vice President Airports at Routes organiser UBM Aviation said:

“We have seen significant year on year growth in this event with more airlines signed up now than attended last year.  This is an encouraging sign and testament to the importance of the event for the entire region. Having the top airlines and airports of the Americas in the same place will be an ideal opportunity for them to identify and grasp opportunities for new air links which would help grow their economies and tourism sectors further.”

Nassau is the capital of The Bahamas and is home to a vibrant tourism sector as well as a thriving financial sector.  The event will allow delegates to see the $409 million redevelopment project at the Lynden Pindling International Airport (LPIA).
