Routes Trivia: Opening your Eyes on Europe

As we prepare for the official opening of this year’s Routes Europe forum which is taking place in the Estonian capital Tallinn, The HUB looks in greater detail at the European aviation market, using data from our fellow UBM Aviation brand, OAG, to highlight the continent’s largest airlines and airports by available seat capacity this year.

Despite the underlying economic environment, 2011 represented a year of growth in terms of flight capacity to and from Europe.  Through the calendar year capacity to Europe reached 979,380,842 seats, up 2.60 per cent on 2010, while capacity from Europe grew 2.67 per cent to 979,693,073 seats.  It has been a much slower start to 2012, due in some part to the current eurozone debt crisis with capacity to and from Europe down 1.95 per cent for the First Quarter, versus the same period last year.

In the tables below we highlight Europe’s top ten airports and airlines by available seat capacity based on current flight schedules for 2012…
