Cargolux Boosts Freight Options in South America

European freight carrier, Cargolux, is expanding its activities in South America from this month with the introduction of flights to the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires on a new additional South American rotation which launches on November 13, 2012.

The new flight, CV7643’, departs Luxembourg every Wednesday and is routed to Buenos Aires’ Aeropuerto Internacional Ministro Pistarini de Ezeiza via Viracopos, Brazil. The return service from Argentina, ‘CV7654’, touches down in Latacunga, Bogota, Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and Manston before returning to Luxembourg on Thursdays.

In addition to general cargo, Cargolux expects to carry consumer goods, automotive cargo and spare parts on the services to Argentina. Return flights are expected to carry mainly perishables, automotive parts and live animals such as horses.

The additional rotation to South America has been introduced due to increasing exports and demand for air cargo capacity out of Ecuador and Colombia as well as a requirement for additional capacity from Brazil in combination with the service to Argentina, a senior executive at Cargolux told The HUB.

Industry association, IATA, reported a 3.9 per cent year-on-year growth of air freight volumes for September 2013 on the back of the strong growth observed in Latin American economies in recent months. The region saw the strongest trade increase this year, supporting the continued expansion in air freight demand.
