ROUTES AMERICAS: TAG Airlines to Launch Link to El Salvador

Central American carrier Transportes Aéreos Guatemaltecos (TAG Airlines) is to launch a new international link between its La Aurora International Airport base in Guatemala City and San Salvador’s original Ilopango Airport in El Salvador. The new route, which will commence on March 20, 2014, was revealed during this year’s Routes Americas forum in El Salvador’s capital city.

Details of the new link, which will be operated using a Saab 340, were revealed by the head of the El Salvadoran Civil Aviation Authority, Autoridad de Aviación Civil (AAC), Alirio Serrano during an impromptu press briefing during the network planning event, where he also revealed that new air services between El Salvador and destinations in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Belize will be established in the not too distant future.

It is understood that some of these markets will be served by new local start-up, Veca Airlines, but also proposed Honduras newcomer, Easy Sky, which is also in the process of securing its operating permits from that country’s aviation regulator. "We hope that with these airlines, and others that may subsequently come to the country, the industry here will grow," Serrano told the local reporters.
