Ryanair adds New Copenhagen Routes

The Irish low-cost carrier has added a further four routes from its new base in Copenhagen.

Ryanair initially announced it would fly from Copenhagen – Milan Bergamo and Warsaw Modlin daily, as well as from Copenhagen – London Luton twice daily; increasing to three times daily from October 25, 2015, but has since announced a further four routes for later this year, including Madrid, Rome, Brussels and Stockholm.

After the announcement of the initial routes including Milan, Warsaw and Luton, the airline speculated that it would introduce a great deal more routes from its new base in Copenhagen.

"Ten more routes will be announced early next year, which will deliver over one million customers annually and support about 1,000 onsite jobs, as Ryanair invests 2.4 billion kroner in Copenhagen," said David O’Brien, Head of Commercial at Ryanair.

From September 2, 2015, the airline will operate routes from Copenhagen – Madrid and Rome Ciampino once daily. Starting October 25, 2015, the airline will operate a new service from the Danish capital to Brussels Charleroi twice daily, as well as Stockholm Skavsta once daily.

“We are still in active negotiations with Copenhagen Airport and will present more routes later in the year, which will provide 1.7 million customers and maintain 1,700 jobs at Copenhagen Airport,” O’Brien said.

The airline will compete head to-head with easyJet on the London route, after easyJet launched the route in November last year.

Ryanair announced Copenhagen as its 70th base last October, with plans to position four Boeing 737-800s at the Danish capital, also announcing Bratislava as its 71st base a few weeks later with a new route to Madrid.

Ryanair is one of Europe's biggest airlines and has more than 1,600 daily departures to and from 189 destinations.
