King Shaka International Airport in Durban has been recognised as the Best Regional Airport in Africa by the SKYTRAX World Airport Awards, which were held in Paris.

The World Routes host for 2015 was also rated third in the categories for ‘Best Airport Staff Service: Africa’, ‘World’s Best Domestic Airport’, and ‘Best Airports in Africa.

The SKYTRAX awards process is based on an independent nine-month survey consisting of twelve million questionnaires, completed by passengers from more than one hundred nationalities, covering 385 airports.

King Shaka International Airport was also recognised at the ACI Air Service Quality (ASQ) Awards, where they took second place for the Best Airport in Africa, being beaten only by Mauritius.

The South-African city of Durban is a fast gaining international renown and has a long list of accolades. As a finalist in the 2014 New Seven Wonders Cities, and showcased as one of CNN’s most underrated cities, the city is known as the events capital of South Africa.

World Routes 2015 will take place in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal from 19 - 22 September 2015, and is expected to attract almost 3,000 delegates from over 110 countries, including the most senior representatives from airlines, airports and tourism authorities, who wish to meet, plan and discuss new and existing global air services.

“World Routes 2015 will position our flagship development, southern Africa’s premier air logistics platform and the home of the continent’s first purpose built aerotropolis, the Dube Trade Port, which incorporates the King Shaka International Airport for a major growth in air services,” said Michael Mabuyakhulu, Provincial Minister for Economic Development and Tourism, KwaZulu-Natal.

City tours for World Routes 2015 have now been confirmed, giving delegates the opportunity to explore South Africa’s leading domestic tourist destination. The tours include a city tour of the Moses Mabhida Stadium and uShaka Marine world, which is the fifth largest aquarium in the world.

Another includes a tour of King Shaka International Airport, and the Dube TradePort which has been declared as an Industrial Development Zone, geared to promote foreign and local investment.
