Southwest expands codeshare programme to Volaris

Southwest Airlines has announced it is entering a codeshare agreement with Volaris allowing its passengers to travel to Hawaii.

Southwest has previously shied away from trans-border codeshares, breaking this tradition last month when it announced a new agreement with Canada’s Westjet.

Under the code hare Southwest will co-ordinate flight schedules and reservation systems with the Mexican carrier, which serves cities including Mexico City, Tijuana, Cancun, Guadalajara, Mexicali and Acapulco.

“We will continue to work diligently to broaden our international codeshare service even further,'' said Bob Jordan, Southwest executive vice president for strategy and planning.
