Austrian Airlines Waltzes into Manchester Market

Austrian Airlines is to introduce a new up to daily link between Vienna and Manchester from this autumn, complementing its frequent links between the Austrian and English capitals. The announcement marks the return of a network operation on the route for the first time since British Airways last served the route in early 2007 and will see the carrier operate alongside low-fare leisure specialist Jet2.com, which has served this market since December 2013.

The Star Alliance member, part of the Lufthansa Group, currently operates four flights per day between Vienna International Airport and London Heathrow and will introduce the new Manchester link from September 10, 2015. The route will be served with Fokker 70 and Fokker 100 equipment.

The service to the Austrian capital will provide better access for the Lufthansa Group’s customers in the North of England into the country and will provide additional onward connection options from/to Manchester to the existing Lufthansa and partner services into the German market.

Vienna, situated on the banks of the river Danube, is an international congress and conference venue and continues to be ranked as the city with the best quality of life.

“The addition of the Vienna flight to the Lufthansa Group offering confirms the importance of Manchester and our North West passengers,” said Christian Schindler, regional director for the UK, Ireland & Iceland for the Lufthansa Group.
