Maryland Governor Larry Hogan this week announced that 2,364,872 passengers travelled through Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in July 2015, a new all-time record for any month at the airport and up 9.1 per cent over July 2014.

International passenger traffic at BWI Marshall continued its strong growth in July. International passengers climbed 52.5 per cent to 137,791, a new monthly record. So far in 2015, airlines have started service to or announced seven new international destinations. A major capital improvement, the D/E Connector program, is now underway in order to increase international capacity and to add new passenger amenities.

“New airline service and growing passenger traffic highlight BWI Marshall’s role as a major international gateway,” said Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. “Our administration remains committed to making the State of Maryland attractive for business and leisure travellers.”

July 2015 was the first time that more than 2.3 million passengers travelled through BWI Marshall in one month. The previous monthly record for passenger traffic at BWI Marshall was July 2012 with 2.22 million passengers. July’s passenger traffic increased for a number of airlines, including: American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways, and Condor.

“We thank the growing number of passengers that are making BWI Marshall their airport of choice,” said Ricky Smith, chief executive officer, BWI Marshall. “New airlines and new non-stop destinations, along with our strong emphasis on customer service, are leading to solid growth and more choices for our passengers.”

The airport intends to use this success as a platform to further grow its network, particularly with additional international connections. The airport’s Director, Air Service Development & Strategic Analysis, Tony Storck is in Durban, South Africa attending World Routes, where he hopes to secure additional air services.
