Scoot to use Route Exchange to find future 787 markets

Asian low-cost, long-haul carrier Scoot has entered into a partnership with Routesonline, the online platform of Routes, to utilise its Route Exchange product to support its future network growth. It is using the online trading zone for network development to launch an official Request for Proposals (RFP) to airports across the globe to study potential new markets for future Boeing 787 Dreamliner deliveries.

Fellow low-cost, long-haul carrier, AirAsia X was the first to use this platform to support its network strategy, while Scoot also used Route Exchange to support its initial data gathering on markets ahead of its launch in 2012. Finnair Cargo, Saudia and most recently Cebu Pacific Air have all also used the platform to help with the air service development decision making process.

“We are delighted that Scoot will be requesting proposals from airports via the Route Exchange. It will allow them to source data and information in line with their chosen criteria and target markets.”

Scoot, a subsidiary of Asian full-service carrier, Singapore Airlines will be expanding its network over the next four years as it introduces additional 787s – both -8s and -9s – into its fleet. These are due to arrive at a rate of two aircraft per year over this period and the airline is exploring expansion opportunities across Asia-Pacific as well into Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

The Route Exchange RFP feature will allows the airline to obtain all the information it needs to evaluate a new route in an efficient way, managed independently and confidentially by Routes, harnessing on the business’ extensive database of airport contacts.

“We are delighted that Scoot will be requesting proposals from airports via the Route Exchange. It will allow them to source data and information in line with their chosen criteria and target markets,” said James Gardner, Airline Manager, Routes. “Route Exchange simply facilitates the process of gathering this data and allows them to deal directly with airports online in a cost and time efficient manner. Scoot is pro-active in its approach to route development and we wish them every success in gathering the information they require”.

In the first stage of this process, Scoot is inviting airports to fill out a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ) to deem their suitability to meet the basic operational and performance requirements of the airline's aircraft. This is open to all registered Routesonline airport users and those that meet the airline’s pre-qualification requirements will pass through to the official launch of RFP, likely in late March this year. This will be exclusively offered to members of the Route Exchange platform in the first instance, affording them an advantage in the process.

Ahead of the formal RFP launch, Scoot will be attending this year’s Routes Asia forum in Manila, Philippines between March 6-8, 2016, where it will be able to discuss the process and growth opportunities with airports. However, Scoot will not be accepting any other route submissions sent directly to any member of the airline’s staff during the RFP process.
