North American aviation industry by numbers - July 2017 update

Routesonline analyses the North American aviation industry, taking a monthly look at the top routes served and revealing the airlines that are dominating the market. We also rank the top ten airports by available seat capacity and examine the most common aircraft used.

Top North American airline routes

Vancouver International (YVR) - Toronto Lester B Pearson (YYZ) had the most available capacity in July 2017, up 8.6 percent on June, following increases by Air Canada, Sunwing Airlines and Westjet. Only one international route, New York J F Kennedy (JFK) - London Heathrow (LHR), featured in the top ten.

Top North American airlines

American Airlines, Delta, Southwest Airlines and United increased their month-on-month capacity by 3.3 percent, 2.7 percent, 2.6 percent and 3.8 percent in July 2017 compared with June. Air Canada recorded the largest percentage capacity growth in the top ten airlines, with an 11.1 percent rise.

Top North American airports

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Delta's flagship hub, had a 5.06 percent capacity share of the North American market in July 2017, based on total available seats.
