Spirit adds nine routes from Austin

Spirit is launching non-stop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to nine cities across the US from early next year.

From 14 February 2019, the carrier plans to open routes to Baltimore/Washington, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Orlando. On 2 May it will add service between Austin and Los Angeles. All the new routes will be daily.

“Austin is not only a booming hub for music, cuisine and the arts, but it has quickly become an economic driver for multiple other industries,” said Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ vice president of network planning.

“Texas’ capital city is a place where we believe our affordable fares and signature service on nonstop flights will resonate and bring both visitors and local residents in and out of the heart of Texas.

“We are offering not one or two, but nine different non-stop destinations because we know Austin is ready for Spirit.”

Austin will join Houston and Dallas as the third destination for Spirit in Texas. It comes just weeks after the airline announced it would be starting service in Jacksonville, Florida and Cali, Colombia, along with expanding significantly in Orlando, Florida and San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Austin has experienced significant growth in recent years. According to figures from OAG Schedules Analyser, the number of scheduled departure seats has surged by 76 percent over the past decade and will total almost 9.7 million in 2018.
