Lufthansa planning Italian airline

Lufthansa has unveiled plans for a new carrier in Italy.

Named Lufthansa Italia the airline will operate eight routes from Malpensa Airport, including flights to London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The carrier is also interested in creating an alliance with Alitalia if it is not bought by Air France KLM.

Lufthansa chief executive, Wolfgang Mayrhuber, said: "With Lufthansa Italia, we're positioning ourselves in an important market with a high potential of growth, also for the future."
