Record profit for Air Berlin

Air Berlin made more than €1 billion in profits in the third quarter of 2008, marking the best performance in the airline’s history.

The carrier’s profits were up 57% compared with the same period last year, which it said was driven by a successful efficiency programme and cutting unprofitable routes.

CEO Joachim Hunold said: “Despite the difficult market environment for the airline sector, Air Berlin’s performance was exceptionally good. We have done our homework and have delivered the figures we had promised to our shareholders.”
