Continental helps test new satellite technology

Continental Airlines has announced it will provide $1.1 million towards the first test of new satellite navigation technology at New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport.

Newark is the first major US airport to test the new Ground Based Augmentation System, which is designed to reduce congestion through improved navigational precision.

In addition Continental will outfit 15 planes with equipment and train pilots to use the system, while the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has committed another $2.5 million to assess and expand the program.
