Iberia to launch Middle East routes

Iberia plans to inaugrate two new markets to the Middle East from its hub at Madrid Barajas. From July 3rd it will begin services on a twice weekly rotation to Amman, and from July 13, a weekly Damascus link.

Fellow oneworld member Royal Jordanian operates a weekly Damascus Madrid service with A320 equipment, and also operates a 5x weekly service from Amman to Madrid with a mix of A320/321 equipment.

IATA BSP data (Airport IS) shows that over 21,000 passengers have flown the Madrid Damascus sector directly and indirectly, in the 12 month period between Nov 08-09. On the Madrid-Amman sector, total traffic is higher, with 37,000 pax flying these city pairs on non stop and indirect services.
