SriLankan Airlines resumes Melbourne service from Oct 2017

SriLankan Airlines on Sunday (28MAY17) opened reservation for its service resumption to Australia since 2001, as it resumes Colombo – Melbourne route on 29OCT17. This daily service will be operated by Airbus A330-200 aircraft.

The oneWorld member last served Australia market with 3 weekly Colombo – Sydney (A340-300) in August 2001. In 1990s, predecessor AirLanka operated 2 weekly Colombo – Sydney – Melbourne – Colombo with Lockheed L1011 Tristar as UL678/679, from 01MAY90 to 30APR93.

The airline back in 2015 filed operational schedule for Colombo – Melbourne route for Northern winter 2015/16 season, with announcement made later at ITB Berlin 2015, however this service resumption did not go ahead at that time.
