Doug Lansky on why we can’t be like Dracula sucking the life from destinations

Recorded live at World Routes 2017 in Barcelona, author and travel writer Doug Lansky discusses the importance of sustainable tourism.

Doug Lansky is a traveller and writer who is the author of ten books including two for Lonely Planet and three for Rough Guides.

In a keynote speech recorded live at World Routes 2017 in Barcelona, Lansky explains why destinations must consider how best to control tourism, otherwise they will soon find people no longer want to visit.

"The number one reason a destination becomes unpopular is because of overcrowding," he says.

"You’ve passed the tipping point but you’re still doing it. The soul of your destination is like your virginity, you only get to lose it once.”
