Fastest Growing Airports in America

According to a report by Airline Weekly, Louis Armstrong International Airport has received the highest rate of growth in the US, registering a 7% growth over the 2013 period. A report by ALTA shows Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport in Brazil as the fastest growing in terms of seat capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean, registering a 4% seat growth since 2012.

The expansion at Louis Armstrong International Airport comes after both Southwest and Spirit Airlines increased services into the airport. US Airways began daily services to Sao Paulo from Charlotte with a morning northbound departure in June 2013.

Houston Intercontinental and Austin-Bergstrom came second and third respectively in the report on US airports, both registering an approximate 6% growth.

Spirit Airlines’ has aided Houston’s growth, offering a number of low-cost nonstop services from the airport. The airline also recently announced a further 10 new destinations for nonstop services out of Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport – seven of which will serve Latin American locations.

July 2014 was the first month in Austin airport history to record over 1 million passengers, and the total passenger traffic for the month was 1,006,417, up 9% compared to July 2013.
