Wednesday World Routes Special - Moldova Pins Hopes on Open Skies

Moldova's Chisinau Airport is confident that the country will ink an open skies agreement with the EU by May 2011, said the gateway's managing director, Roman Podcoritov. Speaking with the Hub Daily yesterday he said negotiations are underway and should be concluded before the middle of this year, which would have a huge impact on the airport. "At the moment it is very difficult for airlines to penetrate our market even though we are seeing strong and steady growth. We hope that an agreement would enable us to grow our network with more point-to-point destinations," he said. The airport has already had good success with attracting new carriers in the past year, counting Lufthansa and Atlas Jet among its most recent airline additions.
