Jetstar bucks Japan tourism slowdown

Jetstar has recorded 17% growth in traffic between Australia and Osaka, despite a downturn in Japanese tourists.

From July and September Jetstar carried 77,940 Japanese passengers between Japan and Australia, compared with 49,705 in the same period in 2007, despite a 19% fall in total visitor numbers out of Japan.

“Though total numbers out of the rest of Japan are down, it just reinforces how well our strategy in Japan is working, and is great news ahead of the expansion of our flight network to Tokyo,” said Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan.
