About The Airline

Connecting Borneo to the World

AirBorneo is Malaysia's first state-owned airline, proudly serving the communities of Sarawak and East Malaysia — and looking beyond, to the region and the world.

historic milestone for Sarawak and East Malaysia

On 12 February 2025, the Sarawak Government completed the acquisition of MASwings from Malaysia Aviation Group, formally launching AirBorneo — making Sarawak the first state in Malaysia to own its airline. Full operational responsibility transferred on 1 January 2026, with inaugural flights departing Kuching International Airport on 2 January 2026.

AirBorneo is not a conventional new carrier. It is the continuation of a proud aviation legacy stretching back to 1953 — when Borneo Airways first took flight to serve the peoples of British Borneo. That commitment to connectivity remains our foundation today.

Headquartered in Kuching, Sarawak, AirBorneo operates with a dual mandate: delivering essential Rural Air Services (RAS) to remote and underserved communities under a federal Public Service Obligation framework, while building toward becoming a full-service regional commercial airline.
