Macaé Airport wins first place in ANAC's Sustainable Airports Award.

Macaé Airport, managed by Zurich Airport Brasil, won first place in the Sustainable Airports Award from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), which evaluates and classifies airports based on their environmental practices in the face of the challenges of energy transition and climate change.

The award highlighted Macaé Airport's initiatives in carbon emissions management, air quality, and noise control, in the category of airports with up to 200,000 passengers.

The 6th edition of the Sustainable Airports Award was presented earlier this month in Brasília. This is the second time the airport has reached the top of the ranking in its category, repeating its feat from 2023. The result consolidates Macaé Airport's commitment to sustainability, reinforced by the recent achievement of Level 4 certification from the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), granted by the Airports Council International for Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC). With this, it became the first regional and offshore airport in Brazil to reach this level, demonstrating:

  • Consistent reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions;
  • Engagement of airport site partners;
  • Decarbonization strategy with a goal of neutrality by 2040.

Other actions that contributed to the achievement were studies on climate risks, the preparation of a pollutant inventory, and continuous monitoring to ensure compliance with legislation. In noise management, practices in aircraft noise control stand out, including calculations of exposed population and periodic reports.

The other three airports managed by Zurich Airport Brazil also achieved impressive results. For the third consecutive year, Floripa Airport won 1st place among airports with up to 5 million passengers. In the overall average score, Vitória Airport achieved a prominent position, coming in 2nd place, and Natal Airport advanced from thirteenth place last year to 3rd place this year.

The airports' performance demonstrates the consistency of the actions taken by Zurich Airport Brazil, which focuses on Sustainability in four key areas: energy, water, waste, and climate.
