Vitória Airport reached a historic milestone by registering a total of 952,000 passengers in the months of July, August, and September 2025.
This number represents a 16% increase compared to the same period of the previous year, consolidating the growth recorded since the beginning of 2025.
The main factor in this performance was the expansion of the air network, with the addition of five new daily flights: one to São Paulo, one to Brasília, and three to Rio de Janeiro (Galeão). The expansion of the route to Rio de Janeiro has been decisive in increasing demand.
From January to September 2025, the airport has already handled approximately 2.5 million passengers, the same level achieved during this period in 2012, the year in which the Espírito Santo terminal recorded its highest passenger traffic ever. Compared to last year, the increase in the number of passengers from January to September is 13%.
One of the aspects contributing to the growth of the air network is the ICMS (Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services) policy adopted in the second half of 2024 by the Government of Espírito Santo to promote flights. The new policy aims to stimulate the expansion of routes and the increase in flight frequency, strengthening the state's air connectivity. By adopting differentiated ICMS rates on aviation fuel, Espírito Santo becomes more competitive compared to other markets, creating conditions for airlines to expand their operations and maintain a sustainable supply of flights.
"I always joke that Espírito Santo was the world's best-kept secret, but we are changing that scenario. By adopting differentiated ICMS (state sales tax) rates for fuel, we were able to attract more flights and consequently more tourists. Another positive point is the state's organization. Large events, tourists, and businesspeople only want to go to a place that has security, adequate infrastructure, and healthcare for emergency services, and Espírito Santo has stood out in these areas," emphasized Casagrande.
Growth had already been observed since the beginning of the year. In the first quarter of 2025, the airport registered 760,000 passengers, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024. In July, a month traditionally marked by high demand due to the holidays, the terminal reached 315,000 travelers, the highest number in history for that month and the second highest in the monthly historical series, behind only January 2020.
“The partnership with the state government has been fundamental for the consistent and significant resumption of growth at Vitória Airport. The records that are repeated every month demonstrate that we are on the right track,” says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of Zurich Airport Brasil, the concessionaire that manages Vitória Airport.
Currently, Vitória Airport operates flights to eight domestic destinations: Guarulhos, Congonhas and Viracopos (SP), Galeão (RJ), Confins (BH), Salvador, Recife and Brasília.
