RFD Accommodates Departure Flight of Presidential Race Candidate

Campaign stop in Wisconsin brings VP Candidate to RFD

Rockford, IL – Today the Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) was involved in the Presidential campaign trail by accommodating the departure flight of a candidate in the race. At approximately 9 a.m., Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan was brought by motorcade from his home in Janesville, Wis. to RFD before boarding a plane to take him to his next campaign stop.

The campaign’s original plans to depart from Janesville were altered, and RFD was made available to Ryan and his staff.

This visit adds to the list of high-profile guests that have recently utilized RFD. In September, the European Ryder Cup used RFD before traveling to Medinah Country Club for the biennial competition. The airport is also accustomed to accommodating flights carrying top officials that require confidentiality and tight security. In June, RFD handled a refueling stop for an aircraft carrying the Prime Minister of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and a delegation of Turkish officials en route to the G20 Summit in Los Cabos, Mexico.

In a brief conversation with RFD Director Mike Dunn, Ryan mentioned that this has not been his first time flying out of Rockford. “We love this airport. Me and my family have used the airport often for flights to Denver,” said Ryan. Director Dunn also commented that if Ryan were to become Vice President, RFD may see more of him in the future.
