Vienna Airport: New Airlines and Destination Offerings in the Summer Flight Schedule 2018

A wide range of new offerings await air travellers in the 2018 summer flight schedule at Vienna Airport. The newly represented low-cost carrier Wizz Air will inaugurate flight service to several destnations and at the same time set up a base in Vienna with three aircraft. In addition, Austrian Airlines is expanding frequencies on numerous routes and Eurowings is starting a number of seasonal flights to popular holiday regions.  Also EVA Air, easyJet, Volotea, Vueling, Aegean Airlines, Norwegian, Aer Lingus, SunExpress, Nordica and Stobart Air/Flybe have new offerings. The summer flight schedule is valid from March 25 to October 28, 2018.

 

“The current year is developing in a very gratifying manner thanks to numerous new flight connections. In particular, growth impetus is being provided by the Lufthansa Group with Austrian Airlines and Eurowings as well as flight service to various destinations launched by Wizz Air, Volotea and other airlines in the low-cost sector. We expect an increase in passenger volume of up to 5% or more in the entire year 2018”, says Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Flughafen Wien AG, commenting on the gratifying growth of flight traffic at the airport. 

 

Wizz Air with numerous new flight connections from Vienna

The Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air will commence operations at Vienna Airport in the course of the year 2018 and serve a total of 19 destinations. It will also permanently station three aircraft at the airport. Wizz Air will launch flight operations in April 2018 with four weekly flights to Danzig (PL), five flights per week to Tuzla (BA) and two to Varna (BG). This will be followed by two weekly flight connections to Cluj (RO) as of May 2018 and four weekly connections to Bari (IT), three to Malta (MT), seven weekly flights to Rome (IT) and four to Tel Aviv (IL), whereas the airline will operate flights to Valencia (ES) as of June 2018. Starting with the winter flight schedule, the airline will also offer four weekly flights to Bergen (NO) as of November, four to Billund (DK), seven to Dortmund (DE), three to Kutaisi (GE), four to Larnaca (CY), three to Nis (RS), three to Ohrid (MK), three to Tenerife (ES), two to Kharkov (UA), and three weekly flight connections to Thessaloniki (GR). One Airbus A320 aircraft and two A321 aircraft will be stationed in Vienna, and the Vienna Airport base of Wizz Air will be expanded in the spring of 2019 to include two more A321 jets to a total of five airplanes. 

 

Austrian Airlines and Eurowings are expanding

In the new summer flight schedule, Austria’s national home carrier Austrian Airlines will inaugurate direct flights to Tokyo-Narita five times per week on a seasonal basis. Moreover, it will increase frequencies to numerous destinations, including Tel Aviv (IL), Venice, Larnaca, Dubrovnik, Berlin-Tegel and Düsseldorf. The low-cost carrier Eurowings will successively expand its seasonal flight offering as of March 26, 2018 and flies twice a week to Catania (IT), three times per week to Chania and Heraklion (both GR) respectively, twice weekly to Corfu (GR), twice to Kos (GR), twice to Larnaca (CY) and four times each week to Rhodes (GR).

 

New offerings at EVA Air, easyJet, Volotea, Vueling, Stobart Air/Flybe and many more

The Taiwanese airline EVA Air has been offering direct flights from Vienna to Taipeh since March 10, 2018. Thanks to the existing four flights to Taipeh with a stop in Bangkok, the airline now offers daily flights to the Taiwenese metropolis. The British carrier easyJet also offers new flight connections, offering flight service seven times per week to Milan-Malpensa (IT) starting on May 31, 2018, and six weekly flights to Basel (CH) as of June 8, 2018.  In addition, Volotea will operate two weekly flights to Bilbao (SP) as of March 29, 2018. Vueling will fly four times each week to Palma de Mallorca (ES) effective June 1, 2018, and will also expand its existing flight offering to Barcelona two daily and Rome up to two daily flights each. As of May 28, 2018, Stobart Air/Flybe is increasing frequencies on its Vienna to London-Southend route from two to four weekly flight connections. Aer Lingus is raising the number of weekly flights to Dublin to a total of nine, and Aegean Airlines is also offering nine weekly flights to Athens. Norwegian is expanding its existing offering to Oslo to four flights per week, and Nodica will serve the Tallinn-Vienna route on a daily basis in the summer flight schedule. SunExpress is also increasing frequencies to Antalya and will thus offer 18 weekly flights.
