OAK anticipates over 210,000 travelers for Labor Day holiday

Airport recommends arriving early and reserving parking ahead

Oakland, Calif. – August 31, 2023: Oakland International Airport (OAK) estimates that over 210,000 travelers will pass through the airport between Thursday, August 31 and Tuesday, September 5 for the Labor Day holiday weekend. This figure represents nearly 88 percent of the traffic levels observed pre-pandemic in 2019.

“Oakland International Airport expects high passenger volumes for the Labor Day holiday weekend,” says Craig Simon, Interim Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “We encourage travelers to allow extra time for getting to the airport and enjoying some of OAK’s newly introduced passenger amenities – such as the OAK Clubhouse in Terminal 1.”

The busiest travel days at the airport are expected to be Friday and Monday. Passengers should arrive early and check their airline’s mobile app for latest flight status information, especially if flying to destinations impacted by weather.

Parking is currently available in all of OAK’s passenger parking lots, but travelers are encouraged to reserve their parking ahead of time for extra peace of mind.

Travelers that fly through OAK for the holiday can enjoy several newly introduced passenger amenities at the airport. The OAK Clubhouse recently opened in Terminal 1 and offers full-service dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. New interactive touch screen kiosks are operating in both Terminals 1 and 2 to help travelers navigate through the airport and browse amenities. The Terminal 2 security exit is now open and welcoming arriving passengers to Oakland.
