About The Airport
Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport
New name, same commitment to excellence.
OAK is The Best Way to San Francisco Bay™
Oakland San Francisco Bay Airport is a primary gateway to the San Francisco Bay Area as well as the "home airport" for most people in the greater region.
It is centrally located on the eastern shoreline of San Francisco Bay. The East Bay is where most of the region's 7.7 million residents live. It is the closest airport to most San Francisco Bay Area employers, including the largest employers. By roadway and BART air-rail, OAK enables excellent access to all the region’s business, entertainment and tourism venues.
OAK aspires to be the airport of choice for San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors alike. OAK is operated by the Port of Oakland, which also oversees the Oakland seaport (the primary cargo gateway for Northern California) and 20 miles of East Bay waterfront that has been undergoing major development. Together with its business partners, the Port supports more than 84,000 jobs in the region with more than a $130 billion economic impact.
- Measured by aircraft movements, OAK is the 4th busiest airport in California. The airport is centrally located, convenient, reliable, and proudly serves all the 103 San Francisco Bay area cities, towns and villages comprising over 7,000 square miles in Northern California.
- It is the Bay area's top airport for air cargo with large intermodal hub operations conducted by Fedex and UPS.
- OAK has the second largest immediate passenger catchment area in the State of California (after LAX). The San Francisco East Bay is the top population and industry epicenter driving Northern California's growing innovation, tech, bio-pharma, entertainment, and tourism economies.
- A diverse range of corporations are headquartered in the East Bay including Sutter Health, Kaiser Permanente, Blue Shield, Zeiss, Workday, 10X Genomics, Bayer, Grifols, Block, Clorox, Disney Pixar Studios, Meta and Lam Research - to name just a few.
- OAK is the home airport to 3 US National Laboratories located in the East Bay - Lawrence Berkeley, Lawrence Livermore and Sandia- employing over 19,000 people.
- The University of California in Berkeley is the #1 ranked US public university and has produced dozens of Nobel Laureates, Olympic medalists, elected officials and top corporate CEOs. OAK is proud to be the Official Airport of Cal Athletics and is celebrating the 15th anniversary of that valuable partnership.
