New Airline at VIE: Wataniya Airways

Three flights per week from Vienna - Kuwait

Wednesday, 2 June, marks the first landing by the Kuwaiti premium carrier Wataniya Airways at Vienna International Airport. In honour of this occasion, Flughafen Wien AG and Wataniya Airways held a joint inaugural ceremony at the airport. The symbolic ribbon cutting was attended by Friedrich Lehr, Senior Executive Vice President Aviation at Flughafen Wien AG, and Lee Shave, Chief Commercial Officer Wataniya Airways who welcomed this new route.  

"Vienna is the first direct destination in Continental Europe from the Wataniya Airways headquarters in Kuwait City. We are looking forward to this future cooperation with Flughafen Wien AG", explained Lee Shave, Chief Commercial Officer Wataniya Airways.  

"This direct connection between Vienna and Kuwait City with the premium carrier Wataniya Airways will strengthen the position of Vienna International Airport as a hub to the Middle East", indicated Friedrich Lehr, Senior Executive Vice President Aviation at Flughafen Wien AG.  

The Kuwaiti carrier will fly the Vienna - Kuwait City route three-times per week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The aircraft will leave Kuwait City at 9.45 am and land in Vienna at 2.05 pm. The return flight will depart from Vienna at 3 pm and land in Kuwait City at 8.45 pm. An Airbus A320 will be scheduled for these flights.   Wataniya Airways was founded in 2005, and transported more than 270,000 passengers in 2009. It the only carrier to operate from the Sheikh Saad Terminal in Kuwait and serves a total of 11 destinations.
