Lappeenranta Airport will become a hub for technology development
In the future, aircrafts will fly using electricity, hydrogen, and biofuels.
The Lappeenranta airport will soon become a hub for technology development aiming to reduce aviation emissions and enhance flight safety. The location offers unique possibilities for research.
“Lappeenranta is situated close to the eastern border, which means air traffic in the region is exposed to GNSS interference. That makes it an ideal place to study flight operations when signals are disrupted,” explains Ville Naumanen, research director at the Kempower Electric Mobility Research Centre (EMRC).
The research airport will also enable studying short-haul and networked flying, given Lappeenranta’s proximity to other Finnish airports and destinations such as Tallinn.
