Turkish Ambassador welcomes Pegasus to Aarhus

Official welcome for Europe' 8th largest airline in the Nordics' fast-growing 5th largest market

Türkiye's Ambassador H.E. Hakan Tekin took on the task of cutting the ribbon for fast-growing Pegasus Airlines, opening the first ever scheduled service directly linking Denmark's second city with Türkiye, beginning its twice-weekly route from Antalya.

The first time that Pegasus has served Aarhus which is the Nordics' fifth largest metropolitan area after the four national capitals. Also the first time AAR has hosted direct scheduled service to Türkiye's ever-popular Mediterranean resort area and the so-called Turquoise Coast.  Antalya is the gateway to popular resorts along the Turkish Riviera such as Belek, Kemer, Alanya and Side.  The recently expanded Antalya Airport is also Pegasus' second largest flight hub and from Aarhus, the service also provides an efficient shortcut to a number of Turkish and Middle Eastern destinations such as Istanbul, Ankara and Northern Cyprus, as well as Amman in Jordan, Chisinau in Moldova and major cities in the Caucasus region - with convenient transfer times.

This is Pegasus Airlines' debut in the Greater Aarhus region, a fast-growing market of around 1.4 million inhabitants at the Danish end of the line, but the airline's customers are are not only sun-seeking holidaymakers. "With over 11,000 people of Turkish background living in the Aarhus catchment area, there is also a large market enabling friends and family to visit each other, and this creates valuable demand and traffic in both directions", said David Surley, Aarhus Airport's director of route development, marketing and communications.

The route to Antalya flies every Monday and Friday this summer, operated by the airline's state-of-the-art Antalya based Airbus A320neo aircraft. "The flight timings on this new route are perfect, the best that any traveler could wish for, whether on vacation or connecting to another Pegasus destination.  We expect to see a growing number of connecting customers to Ankara and Istanbul, so far un-serviced from the Aarhus region and for which we know there is considrable leaking traffic using Hamburg or Copenhagen four hours away", said Surley. Flight tickets are sold directly via the popular Pegasus app and website, also as part of holiday packages with hotel accommodation, including major Danish tour operators Sunweb and Mixx Travel.
