Macaé Airport breaks historical record for flights and passengers in December
Macaé Airport begins the year celebrating two record-breaking passenger traffic figures achieved in December 2025. The airport in northern Rio de Janeiro state registered the highest number of flights and passengers in a single month since Zurich Airport Brasil took over the concession in 2020.
A total of 2,756 flights transported 24,000 passengers. One of the main factors contributing to this result was the increased operations of PRIO, especially in the Peregrino field in the Campos Basin.
To meet the growing demand, the airport is investing in infrastructure dedicated to the offshore sector. Currently, two hangars are under construction for the operators CHC and Bristow. These will be exclusive spaces to expand service capacity with greater safety and comfort. Furthermore, Macaé Airport is the only offshore airport in Brazil with two runways. Inaugurated in June 2025, with R$ 220 million in investments, the new runway is 1,410 meters long.
The improvements are not only in infrastructure; the quality of services also stands out. Last year, Macaé Airport was elected the best offshore airport in Brazil and received the PEOTRAM (Program of Excellence and Operational Efficiency in Air and Maritime Operations) award from Petrobras, which recognizes the safety and efficiency of its operations.
