First flights between Darwin and the Sunshine Coast commenced 29 November 2023

Darwin International Airport is thrilled to officially welcome Australia’s newest domestic airline Bonza to Darwin.

Bonza’s inaugural flight from the Sunshine Coast arrived at Darwin International Airport on 29 November 2023. Passengers were treated to a midnight pyjama party and crocs and snakes were on hand to greet visitors in a special Territory-style welcome.

This is the first time the 2 cities are connected, with Territorians now provided the opportunity to travel directly to the Sunshine Coast and enjoy all that it has to offer.

Airport Development Group Chief Executive Officer Tony Edmondstone said this is a significant milestone for Darwin International Airport, with 2 new routes available to Darwin from the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

“Airport Development Group has been working closely with Bonza and the Northern Territory Government to bring more affordable flight options to residents of the Northern Territory,” said Tony.

“We are very happy to officially welcome Bonza to Darwin and celebrate the two new services we have secured.”

“Territorians now have more opportunity and choice to travel with the introduction of 4 new flights a week.”

“These new connections are expected to bring significant visitation to the Northern Territory during the first year and we look forward to seeing what further positive flow on effects there are for the local economy.”

Northern Territory Government Minister for Industry, Tourism and Trade Joel Bowden welcomed the first Bonza flight to the Top End.

“The arrival of Bonza is fantastic for the Territory’s tourism and hospitality industry as well as a win-win for Territorians,” Minister Bowden said. “We’re thrilled to see Bonza land in the Northern Territory this week. These new Bonza routes from the Sunshine Coast to Darwin, Gold Coast to Darwin and Melbourne to Alice Springs will not only boost visitor numbers as we head towards our peak tourism season, but also give Territorians more choice and connectivity.”
