Vietnam’s new northern gateway met airlines, airports and destination partners in Frankfurt to start early conversations on routes, connectivity and air cargo.
Gia Binh International Airport (GBIA – ICAO VVGB, IATA GBN) took part in Routes World 2026 in Frankfurt from 21 to 23 October 2026, joining more than 230 airlines and industry representatives from over 110 countries.
GBIA held more than 30 meetings with airlines, alongside discussions with airports and destination marketing partners, and its representatives joined the panel “Securing Routes: How to Build Strong Partnerships Between Airlines, Airports, and Destinations”.
Early dialogue with every type of carrier
The team used Routes World to share the airport’s development vision and to understand airline priorities on route development, passenger connectivity and air cargo:
- Full-service and long-haul carriers – a partnership approach for early airline partners.
- Low-cost carriers – efficient turnarounds and competitive operating costs.
- Cargo airlines and logistics operators – dedicated cargo infrastructure linked to Northern Vietnam’s high-tech manufacturing and export hubs.
The opportunity
Project analysis shows that over 30% of potential international passenger demand in Northern Vietnam, around 4–5 million passengers a year, has no direct flight today. Within a three-hour flight radius, GBIA reaches 297 airports and around 1.3 billion people. The airport targets connection times of 60 minutes or less and under 15 minutes from vehicle drop-off to boarding.
Demand is supported by a fast-growing economy: Vietnam’s GDP grew 8.02% in 2025, and Bac Ninh province attracted around US$5.73 billion of foreign direct investment, driving business travel and high-value cargo from Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen and Hai Phong. The Hanoi – Ha Long – Ninh Binh corridor adds strong leisure demand.
GBIA was approved by Vietnam’s National Assembly in December 2025 and is developed by Masterise Aviation Infrastructure JSC (MAI), a member of Masterise Group.
