Düsseldorf Airport expects around 7,100 flight movements and more than million passengers during the Easter break.

North Rhine-Westphalia kicks off the Easter holidays

The Easter holidays are just around the corner, and for many people in North Rhine-Westphalia, this marks the start of vacation time or visits to friends and family abroad. Between Friday, March 27, and Sunday, April 12, Düsseldorf Airport expects around 7,100 flight movements and over one million passengers.

The daily average number of passengers will rise from the current figure of around 45,000 to approximately 60,000 during the holiday period. Demand is particularly high on holiday weekends. From March 27 to 29, the airport expects more than 175,000 passengers. On the weekend of April 3–5, the expected volume will rise to more than 184,000 travelers.

“Many families are currently looking forward to their vacations. At a time when global political crises and new uncertainties dominate people’s thoughts, the desire for relaxation and time spent with family and friends remains strong. This makes it all the more important to us that the journey begins reliably and stress-free at Düsseldorf Airport and that our passengers feel well taken care of from the very first moment,” explains Lars Redeligx, CEO of Düsseldorf Airport.

Mediterranean destinations and European cities are in high demand during the Easter break. Mallorca and Antalya are clearly in the lead, each with more than 200 departures through
April 12. A total of nearly 700 flights are scheduled to Spain, in addition to Mallorca primarily to Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Tenerife South, and Málaga. Around 560 departures are planned for Türkiye. In addition to Antalya, flights primarily connect Düsseldorf to the two airports in Istanbul. Greece and Italy are also in high demand during the Easter holidays—in Greece, primarily Heraklion, Athens, and Thessaloniki; in Italy, particularly Milan, Rome, and Catania. Among city destinations, London, Paris, Barcelona, and Madrid stand out. Around 150 departures to London alone are scheduled during the holidays.

The airport, together with its partners, has made extensive preparations for the busy days ahead. Staffing and processes have been specifically tailored to the expected volume of traffic, procedures—especially during peak times—have been closely coordinated once again, and operational measures to ensure smooth holiday operations have been further refined.
During the Easter holidays, check-in counters at Düsseldorf Airport generally open at 3:30 a.m. On the weekends of March 28 and 29, as well as April 4 and 5, some airlines will begin check-in as early as 3:00 a.m. Security checkpoints will also open at 3:00 a.m. on these weekends, rather than the usual 3:30 a.m. Between 2:15 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. on both holiday weekends, a shuttle bus will also run between the airport station and the terminal until the SkyTrain begins regular service at 3:45 a.m.
