Vienna Airport: Inaugural flight of Rossiya Airlines with Antonov 148

7 February 2012 marked the first landing by a Rossiya Airlines Antonov 148 at Vienna Airport. Plans call for the airline to increase the use of this aircraft type on the St. Petersburg – Vienna route in the future.

“Rossiya uses the Antonov 148 very effectively on flights within Russia and on international routes. High passenger comfort, modern equipment and optimal seating capacity make the An-148 an excellent choice for short- and medium-haul flights. This offering is now available to our passengers on the St. Petersburg – Vienna route“, indicated Dmitry Zvonarev, CCO of Rossiya Airlines.

“We look forward to continuing our good cooperation with Rossiya Airlines. The fact that we are welcoming the Antonov 148, a new type of aircraft, to Vienna underscores the importance of our airport as a hub to Eastern Europe“, added Julian Jäger, member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.

Rossiya Airlines with four flights per week from St. Petersburg to Vienna starting at the end of March

Rossiya Airlines currently offers three flights per week from Vienna to St. Petersburg, and will add a fourth frequency on Saturday beginning at the end of March. The codeshare partner for all flights is Austrian Airlines. Rossiya Airlines is the successor to Pulkovo Airlines and operates a fleet of 29 aircraft with flights to national and international destinations. The airline, which is a member of IATA and IOSA-certified, carried 3.5 million passengers and was one of the three most punctual Russian airlines in 2011.

The Antonov 148, which is also IOSA-certified, can carry up to 68 passengers and was first used on a scheduled flight from St. Petersburg to Moscow in December 2009. The first international flight took place in March 2011 from St. Petersburg to Berlin.
