Major OXF Groundworks Expansion Commences

Work on major apron and new hangar complex development gets underway at London Oxford Airport

July 2010 – London Oxford Airport is about to start work on creating a further 17,800m2 (4.4 acres) of new high strength apron whilst resurfacing a further 5,000m2 of established surfaces. This US$3.4m (£2.2m) project comes along at the same time a new 4440m2 (47,800 sq.ft.) hangar has commenced construction on the south side of the main airport site. “This represents a massive advance forward in capacity and infrastructure development with effectively a doubling of parking capacity at the airport for aircraft weighing up to 50 tonnes. On a busy day we can sometimes be stretched for space, but now Oxford will be able to accommodate far more aircraft either visiting or as based residents, at rates considerably better value than some of our London region peers.” remarked Business Development Director, James Dillon-Godfray. Adding the equivalent of well over four football pitches-worth of additional parking space will give a great deal more flexibility and allow with greater ease, the handling of regional airliners including the Dash 8-Q400 and the Embraer family of regional aircraft such as the EMB-190 and the Lineage business jet variant. On occasions when there may be a need to clear the main apron for major events in the future like the Silverstone Grand Prix, indeed for the forthcoming London 2012 Olympics, Oxford will now be able to accommodate typically 40 or so mid to larger-size executive jets opposite the new award-winning oxfordjet FBO terminal facility.
