New additions to the route network

Ryanair launches flights from Leipzig/Halle

Beginning with the 2011/2012 winter timetable, the Irish carrier Ryanair will offer direct flights from Leipzig/Halle to two major European cities, London and Rome. Daily flights to the UK capital’s Stansted Airport will be available from November 2011. Rome-Ciampino will be served three times a week. Passengers from Central Germany will appreciate the new service as there have been no direct flights between Leipzig/Halle and London since 2008.

The launch of Ryanair’s first connections from Leipzig/Halle will be a perfect addition to the airport’s network of direct flights and connecting services through various European hubs, including Frankfurt, Munich, Dusseldorf, Vienna, Paris and Brussels.

Dierk Näther, Managing Director of Flughafen Leipzig/Halle GmbH, is very pleased with the new routes: “London has always been on top of the list of preferred destinations here in our region. We are delighted to be partnering with Ryanair. With the launch of the carrier’s new service to Rome in autumn this year, we will be able to add not just one but two capital cities to our destination network. Thus, Leipzig/Halle continues to establish itself as an airport that offers services covering the entire range from low cost charter, scheduled and holiday flights to air cargo services.”

Markus Kopp, Chief Executive Officer of Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG: “Cooperation will benefit both, the airline and the airport, and open up new opportunities to continually develop their individual business models. Ryanair’s very specific low cost model and fare structure will complement the services offered by our existing airline customers here in the highly price-sensitive market of Central Germany.”

“If cooperation develops favourably, it is intended to expand services further. Both partners wish to build long-term and efficient business relationships with each other, “ adds Dierk Näther.
