Quarterly Figures Show Clear Upswing at the Central German Airports

Leipzig/Halle Airport registers increases in passenger volumes – and freight handling continues to grow

464,291 passengers passed through Leipzig/Halle Airport during the first quarter, 4.7 percent more than in the same period in the previous year. The airport handled 190,111 passengers in the month of March, an increase of 12.1 percent over the same month in 2009. This development was primarily due to an increase in demand in the tourist sector.
 
In addition to this, the airport was able to record further growth in what are already outstandingly positive results in terms of freight volumes. 150,107 tonnes of air freight were transhipped at Leipzig/Halle airport during the period from January to March. This represents a growth rate of 32.4 percent when compared to the same quarter in the previous year. The number of aircraft movements at Leipzig/Halle Airport also reflects a positive trend: 14,041 take-offs and landings were recorded there during the first quarter, 4.5 percent more than in the previous year. The increase in March was 9.5 percent with 5,304 aircraft movements.
