Pula Airport is the first aerodrome in Croatia which has successfully completed the process of conversion of aerodrome certificates in accordance with the Regulation (EU) No 139/2014 and their Implementing Rules by which compliance with the latest and most rigorous aviation standards and recommended practices has been assured.

The European Commission has adopted the Commission Regulation (EU) No 139/2014 of 12 February 2014 laying down requirements and administrative procedures related to aerodromes. The European Commission has adopted the necessary Implementig Rules for establishing the conditions for the design and safe operation of aerodromes which should reflect the state of the art and the best practices in the field of aerodromes, taking into account the applicable International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices.

The measures provided in this Regulation are based on the opinion issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). EASA has defined the certification basic infrastructural and operational conditions which must be fullfilled by the aerodromes for establishing or conversion of aerodrome certificates.

Also, a deadline of 31 December 2017 has been determined for every aerodrome in the European Union to complete the process of establishing or conversion of aerodrome certificates in accordance with the latest standards.
