Passenger Movements Rise 13.9% in April Boosted by New Airline Services and Routes
In April 2025, Malaysia Airports recorded a 13.9% month-on-month increase in passenger movements across its network in Malaysia and Türkiye, supported by the launch of new airline services and expanded connectivity to key regional and international destinations.
Among the major developments, British Airways commenced daily London–Kuala Lumpur service with the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant enhancement to KL International Airports’ (KLIA) long-haul connectivity. FitsAir also began operating four weekly flights from Colombo to KLIA Terminal 2 with Airbus A320, while Myanmar Airways International launched a new twice-weekly service connecting Yangon and Penang, further strengthening links to Southeast Asia destinations.
Managing Director of Malaysia Airports, Dato’ Mohd Izani Ghani said, “These new services reflect rising demand, stronger airline partnerships, and expanding access to Malaysia. By connecting to more key cities, we are creating greater opportunities for tourism, trade, and investment for the country, while continuing to enhance the airport ecosystem for our airline partners and passengers.”
Passenger movements across the Malaysia Airports network, including its operations in Türkiye, reached 12.1 million in April 2025, up from 10.7 million in March.
In Malaysia, total passenger movements grew 15.6% to 8.3 million. Domestic travel led the increase, rising 25.2% to 4.2 million passengers, driven by festive season travel and school holidays. The international sector also increased 7.5% to 4.2 million passengers.
At Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (ISG), Malaysia Airports’ wholly-owned asset in Türkiye, passenger movements rose 10.3% to 3.8 million in April. International passengers increased 8.4% to 2.14 million, while domestic passengers grew 12.8% to 1.7 million, continuing the upward momentum seen across the network.
