Cardiff to Cornwall in half an hour with Air Southwest

Air Southwest has launched its new daily service from Cardiff to Cornwall, putting one of the UK’s top holiday destinations just half an hour away.

Air Southwest has started flying from Cardiff to Newquay Cornwall Airport, which is just a stone’s throw from some of the best surfing and bathing beaches in Europe, and home to iconic attractions like the Eden Project, Tate St Ives and Land’s End.

Mike Coombes, commercial director at Air Southwest, said: “Cornwall has so much to offer at any time of year and we’re delighted to have started up this new route from Cardiff to Newquay, which is the surfing capital of the UK.

“Our daily flights take just over half an hour, shaving more than three hours off the same journey by road. And we’ve teamed up with our car hire partner Avis to offer some great flydrive packages so people can enjoy a short break and explore everything Cornwall has to offer.”

Patrick Duffy, managing director at Cardiff Airport, added: “We’re pleased to welcome Air Southwest to Cardiff Airport and hope the Newquay service will be a great success.

“The service is a welcome addition to the airport’s route network and offers a real alternative to the long journeys by rail and road for both leisure and business passengers in South Wales and Cornwall.”

Cornwall remains one of the UK’s most popular holiday destinations renowned for its breathtaking scenery, and is a gastronome’s paradise with Rick Stein’s famous Seafood Restaurant and the Jamie Oliver-inspired Fifteen both just a few miles from Newquay airport.

The new flights have been welcomed by Malcolm Bell, Head of VisitCornwall, who said: “Air travel has helped revolutionise the short break market in recent years and I’ve no doubt that this new Cardiff service will attract more visitors to Cornwall, especially given the growth in ‘staycation’ holidays at home in the UK.”
