YVR Celebrates New Services to Frankfurt and Nagoya

Air Canada expands its YVR hub, with the only service in Canada to Nagoya

June 1, 2017 · Richmond, B.C.

Today, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) celebrated the inaugural flights of two new, non-stop seasonal services: Air Canada’s daily service to Frankfurt and Air Canada Rouge’s three-times weekly service to Nagoya. These new routes will connect YVR’s passengers with two key hub cities, with the YVR – Nagoya route being the only one of its kind in Canada.

“I would like to thank Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge for supporting YVR and providing our passengers with such exciting travel options,” said Craig Richmond, President & CEO of Vancouver Airport Authority. “Nagoya is an incredible city that boasts Japan’s largest port, a strong manufacturing industry and great tourist destinations. And Air Canada’s new service to Frankfurt opens many opportunities for passengers and businesses to connect with a premier European hub city, which opens up travel into Europe and beyond.”

These new services are timed to connect travellers from both destinations to major destinations within Canada and North America. Both services will bring economic benefits to the local communities. The Nagoya service will create 160 new jobs and contribute $8.3 million to B.C.’s GDP; the Frankfurt service will create 149 new jobs and contribute $8.8 million to B.C.’s GDP.

“Today is an exciting day as we launch two new international flights from YVR this summer as part of our ongoing strategic, global expansion,” said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. “We’re pleased to welcome onboard our local customers to Nagoya and to Frankfurt, and as well as customers from Japan, Germany and beyond who are visiting Vancouver and beautiful B.C. this summer. Our new non-stop flights to Frankfurt onboard Air Canada’s 787 Dreamliners and to Nagoya onboard Air Canada Rouge B767-300ER aircraft support our YVR hub, which connects customers flying from B.C., Western Canada and the US to Asia, Europe and beyond.”

New services such as these are made possible thanks to YVR’s new five-year rates and charges program, ConnectYVR. The program provides a highly competitive rate structure and includes rates lower than any other major airport in Canada and competing US airports.
