YVR Celebrates New Air Canada Non-Stop Service to Boston

Seasonal daily service marks the only connection between Vancouver and Boston

Richmond, B.C. (June 23, 2017): Today, Vancouver International Airport (YVR) welcomed the inaugural flight of Air Canada’s new route between YVR and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). The non-stop seasonal service will arrive at YVR daily and operate until September 4, 2017. Being the only non-stop connection between Vancouver and Boston, the flight is timed strategically to connect travellers with other Asian and South Pacific flights out of YVR.

“We are excited that Air Canada is now offering non-stop service to one of our most under-served markets,” said Craig Richmond, President & CEO, Vancouver Airport Authority. “Air Canada’s new daily flight from YVR to Boston will connect travellers from British Columbia to the vital Northeastern business hub and a region rich in history and culture.”

Boston is the largest city in Massachusetts and will provide British Columbians with great opportunities for leisure travel and business. For those traveling from Boston, this flight is conveniently timed to facilitate easy access to Vancouver’s seaport for access to cruise ships leaving Vancouver.

“We are delighted to launch the only non-stop flights from Vancouver to Boston today,” said Benjamin Smith, President – Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. “The addition of these convenient non-stop flights helps further strengthen our YVR trans-Pacific hub by linking Greater Boston, one of the most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. to our extensive network at YVR which offers convenient connections throughout BC. Additionally, our Boston-Vancouver flights connect easily to and from our Sydney and Brisbane, AU daily flights with competitive elapsed travel times.”

The YVR-BOS route uses an Air Canada Airbus 319 aircraft with seat capacity for 120 passengers. This new service benefits the local economy with new jobs and contributes $1.5 million to B.C.’s GDP.

This year Air Canada introduced services to Dallas in February, Denver in May and increased frequencies to Los Angeles and San Jose in May. Air Canada also launched international routes out of YVR this month to Frankfurt and Taipei, while also introducing service to London Gatwick and Nagoya on Air Canada Rouge. In December this year, Air Canada will launch service to Melbourne. Air Canada’s significant growth at YVR is made possible thanks to YVR’s five-year rates and charges program, ConnectYVR. The program provides a highly competitive rate
structure and includes airline rates lower than any other major airport in Canada and
competing US airports.
