Facts (Overview)
Calicut International Airport (Gateway to Malabar), begun its operations in the year 1988 with a humble beginning to cater the Non-resident Keralite population (mainly in Middle East countries) of the northern region of Kerala, the South Peninsular State of India. Initial operations were happened in the Domestic sector connecting Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) to ferry the Gulf passengers arriving there. In 1993, International operations started with Indian Airlines operating to Sharjah.
As on today, catering to the overall needs of the region’s large migrant population in the Middle East Asia and elsewhere in the world, with a limited land area (377.73Acre), Calicut International Airport stands tall among the Airports Authority of India Airports in terms of traffic growth and profit.
Airport has an integrated terminal building to cater both International and domestic operations with a Total area of 23780 sq. m, which can handle 500 international departure and arrival passengers simultaneously and 250 domestic passengers (both arrival and departure simultaneously).
