Southwest Airlines Relocates Ticket Counter to Accommodate Increasing Passengers

Installs First Full-Service, Self-Tagging Kiosks at Pittsburgh International Airport

Southwest Airlines has moved its ticket counter and curbside check-in to the north end of the landside terminal to accommodate increasing passengers and flights at Pittsburgh International Airport.

The move will allow Southwest to operate from the airport’s north baggage matrix system, helping to improve flow on the south baggage matrix, which all carriers except American utilize.

To continue improving and expediting customer service during the check-in process, Southwest also installed eight self-tagging baggage kiosks at its new ticket counter, which is located in front of the large sculpture of Pittsburgh bridges (Arch).

The full-service kiosks will allow passengers to check-in, print boarding passes and tag their own bags. These improvements coincide with an ongoing nationwide re-branding effort by Southwest, which will introduce new crew uniforms and gate upgrades in coming months.

"We are delighted that Pittsburgh International is able to accommodate Southwest’s incredible growth here in Pittsburgh and provide these upgraded technology options for travelers," Allegheny County Airport Authority CEO Christina Cassotis said. "We have a wonderful partnership with Southwest, and we are looking forward to their continued growth which this move will easily allow."

Over the past 11 years since Southwest began service in Pittsburgh, the carrier has seen a steady increase in passengers and now serves 16 nonstop destinations including daily nonstop service to Los Angeles (LAX) launching in August.
