Facts (Overview)
Quito International Airport
As of October 2010, Quito - the main gateway to Ecuador- will have a new airport, which is the only greenfiled airport being built in Latin America.
The new airport will provide improved operating conditions for charter and schedule airline services, as well as better service to the growing passenger traffic. Some of the operational benefits include:
Improved take off performance with more payload and fuel capacity, avoiding refueling stopover on long-haul flights. Safer operations with lower landing approach minimums than those at the current airport. Ability for larger airplanes to land in the 4,100 meter long runaway, at a lower altitude (400 meters lower than the current airport). Fully compliant with ICAO standards.Corporación Quiport S.A., a private company formed by a consortium of Canadian, American and Brazilian companies, is the concessionaire for the airport system in Quito, which includes the operation of the actual airport and the construction, operation and administration of the New Quito International Airport.
