Velana International Airport welcomes the first A380 aircraft to its new Code F Runway

The new Code F runway was inaugurated by H.E.P Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on 18th September 2018. To celebrate this glorious milestone, the world’s biggest commercial aircraft the Airbus A380 made its first landing at Velana International Airport. This historical flight was made by Mr. Ali Ahsan; a Maldivian pilot from Etihad Airways.

Measuring 3,400 meters in length and 60 meters in width the new runway at Velana International Airport is the only runway in the Maldives that can cater to code F aircrafts. The new runway is equipped with latest technological facilities and can handle over 14 aircraft movements per hour.
